Gain insight into the impact of domestic violence on children and youth, and learn strategies for supporting children who have experienced it.

In this three-hour workshop, participants will learn about the cycle of abuse, warning signs of abuse and emotional regulation strategies for the children in their care. We will also discuss how to best support children within the parameters of your roles and your comfort levels.

The workshop will also examine:

  • how attachment can be impacted by domestic violence and the implications for supporting children, youth and families experiencing it
  • how the brain reacts to threats to safety
  • the modulation model
  • emotional regulation strategies with children, youth and their caregivers
  • how to support children, youth and their caregivers to heal from domestic violence

The workshop will be interactive, inviting participants to explore these topics through group discussions as well as some small group explorations of emotional potential case scenarios.
