Gain insight into the impact of domestic violence on children and youth, and learn strategies for supporting children who have experienced it.
In this three-hour workshop, participants will learn about the cycle of abuse, warning signs of abuse and emotional regulation strategies for the children in their care. We will also discuss how to best support children within the parameters of your roles and your comfort levels.
The workshop will also examine:
- the potential impacts of domestic violence on children
- how attachment can be impacted by domestic violence and the implications for supporting children, youth and families experiencing it
- how the brain reacts to threats to safety
- the modulation model
- emotional regulation strategies with children, youth and their caregivers
- how to support children, youth and their caregivers to heal from domestic violence
The workshop will be interactive, inviting participants to explore these topics through group discussions as well as some small group explorations of emotional potential case scenarios.

About the Facilitator
Frances Soon, MA, RCC, is an adult, child and family therapist at Family Services of Greater Vancouver, and Coordinator of the PEACE Program (Trauma Counselling for Children Affected by Family Violence). She is a registered clinical counsellor with over 11 years experience, and works with clients who have experienced trauma such as domestic violence, neglect, attachment injury and loss. She is passionate about supporting clients to heal and feel empowered.
The price of this workshop will rise from $70 to $95 on April 18th.
